Wszystko, czego potrzebuje — ikona, logo i baza producentów kart sieciowych — siedzi w środku pliku .exe.

Restart do BIOS.

4. ActivateProgram potwierdza Licence activated i otwiera główne okno.

„This activation code is not valid for this computer” to najczęściej niekompletnie skopiowany kod — brakujący początek, koniec albo złamanie kodu przy przeklejaniu. Skopiuj go jeszcze raz w całości. Druga możliwość to kod wydany dla innego komputera.

3. Pierwsze uruchomienie

PIN

Część funkcji jest zabezpieczona czterocyfrowym PIN-em. Domyślny PIN to 0000 — warto zmienić go przy pierwszym uruchomieniu przyciskiem ZMIEŃ PIN w zakładce NARZĘDZIA.

RESTART DO BIOSRestartuje komputer prosto do ustawień UEFI.
ZMIEŃ PINWymaga podania starego PIN-u przed ustawieniem nowego.
Trzy błędne próby blokują PIN na pięć minut. W tym czasie program odpowiada komunikatem Zablokowane. Licznik kasuje się po poprawnym podaniu PIN-u.

Gdzie program trzyma dane

PlikCo zawiera
index.jsonIndeks plików — największy z tych plików, powstaje po kliknięciu BUDUJ INDEKS.
index_cfg.jsonLista katalogów pomijanych przy indeksowaniu.
pin.datSkrót PIN-u. Skasowanie pliku przywraca PIN 0000.
clipboard.jsonHistoria schowka wraz z przypiętymi wpisami.
notes.txtTreść okna SZYBKIE NOTATKI.
wol.jsonZapisane urządzenia Wake on LAN.
oplog.jsonDziennik operacji na plikach — to z niego działa COFNIJ.
ipinfo.jsonZapamiętane nazwy i producenci urządzeń ze skanera sieci.
autostart_backup.jsonKopia wpisów autostartu wyłączonych z poziomu programu.
app_cfg.jsonPozostałe ustawienia okna i narzędzi.

Budowanie indeksu

  1. Wybierz zakres w polu „Dyski”. Cały system bierze wszystkie dyski stałe. Można też wskazać pojedynczy dysk albo — przyciskiem WYBIERZ FOLDER — jeden konkretny katalog.
  2. Kliknij BUDUJ INDEKS. Pasek stanu pokazuje, ile plików już policzono. Indeks całego dysku systemowego to zwykle kilka minut i kilkadziesiąt megabajtów pliku index.json.

5. Wyszukiwanie plików

Górna część zakładki WYSZUKIWANIE to cztery kolumny kryteriów, każda z własnym przyciskiem.

Zbuduj go najpierw. Kliknij BUDUJ INDEKS — patrz rozdział 4.

Przykłady

6. Szukanie w treści i duplikaty

Szukanie w treści

Wpisz frazę w pole W treści, wskaż folder przyciskiem WYBIERZ FOLDER i kliknij SZUKAJ W TREŚCI. Program przechodzi pliki w tym folderze i podfolderach, i pokazuje każde trafienie razem z numerem linii i jej początkiem.

OgraniczenieWartość
Rodzaje plikówTylko pliki tekstowe: txt, log, ini, cfg, conf, csv, xml, json, md, py, bat, ps1, html, htm, css, js, sql, yaml, yml, srt, nfo, reg, env.
Szukanie w treści służy do plików tekstowych: konfiguracji, logów, napisów, kodu, plików CSV.
Fraza plus kryteria naraz. Gdy oprócz frazy wypełnisz nazwę, rozmiar, datę albo rozszerzenie i klikniesz SZUKAJ ŁĄCZONE, program najpierw zawęzi listę z indeksu, a dopiero w tych plikach poszuka treści.

Duplikaty

7. Co zrobić z wynikami

Lista wyników nie jest tylko do patrzenia. Pojedyncze kliknięcie zaznacza, podwójne otwiera plik, a prawy przycisk myszy otwiera menu z operacjami.

Hurtowa zmiana nazw

Przycisk ZMIEŃ NAZWY otwiera okno, w którym jedną regułą przemianujesz wszystkie pliki w wybranym folderze.

Pole PODGLĄD — STARA → NOWA pokazuje wynik reguły przed jej wykonaniem. Dopiero WYKONAJ zmienia nazwy naprawdę. Gdy reguła niczego nie zmienia, program mówi Brak zmian do wykonania i nie rusza plików.

Zawsze przeczytaj podgląd. To jedyny moment, w którym widać skutek reguły na wszystkich plikach naraz. Zmianę nazw też można cofnąć — patrz niżej.

Dziennik operacji i COFNIJ

Przycisk DZIENNIK w zakładce NARZĘDZIA otwiera zapis wszystkiego, co program zrobił z plikami: kopiowania, przeniesienia, usunięcia do Kosza i zmiany nazw.

Pliki bez rozszerzenia idą do pozycji (bez rozszerzenia).
NAJWIĘKSZE PLIKIPojedyncze pliki od największego, ze ścieżką.

OTWÓRZ W EKSPLORATORZE otwiera zaznaczony folder albo plik, a KOPIUJ WIDOK przenosi całą widoczną listę do schowka — wygodne, gdy chcesz komuś wysłać zestawienie. Listę można też zawęzić do jednego dysku.

Raport jest tak aktualny jak indeks. Po dużych porządkach kliknij najpierw ODŚWIEŻ INDEKS, inaczej zobaczysz stan sprzed sprzątania.

Puste foldery i pliki 0 B

Przycisk PUSTE / 0 B otwiera osobne okno, które przeszukuje wskazany folder (przycisk WYBIERZ, potem SZUKAJ) i pokazuje dwie listy: PLIKI 0 B i PUSTE FOLDERY.

Pusty nie zawsze znaczy zbędny. Niektóre programy trzymają puste katalogi celowo i odtwarzają je przy starcie. Przejrzyj listę, zanim usuniesz wszystko hurtem — zwłaszcza w katalogach aplikacji.

9. Zakładka SIEĆ — podstawy

Górny pasek zakładki SIEĆ wybiera kartę sieciową, której dotyczą wszystkie operacje: ping, DNS, zmiana MAC, monitor transferu i włączanie sieci. Program wypełnia listę kartami widocznymi w systemie — zwykle są to Ethernet i Wi-Fi.

MOJE DANE

Ping do rutera / DNS / internetuTrzy osobne próby.
MAC komputera, nazwa komputeraDo konfiguracji rutera i do Wake on LAN.

KOPIUJ WSZYSTKO przenosi cały raport do schowka — wygodne, gdy ktoś prosi o dane połączenia.

Ping

W polu Ping wpisz adres albo nazwę i kliknij START PING. Program pinguje bez przerwy i pokazuje kolejne odpowiedzi; STOP PING zatrzymuje. To narzędzie do obserwowania łącza w czasie — widać po nim zrywanie Wi-Fi albo chwilowe przeciążenia.

DNS

Lista DNS zawiera gotowe zestawy serwerów nazw: Automatyczny (DHCP), Google, Cloudflare, Quad9, OpenDNS i AdGuard. Po wybraniu pozycji kliknij USTAW DNS ADMIN PIN.

Zmiana DNS dotyczy wybranej karty sieciowej. Jeśli komputer korzysta raz z kabla, raz z Wi-Fi, ustaw DNS osobno dla każdej karty albo zostaw Automatyczny.

WYŁĄCZ SIEĆ / WŁĄCZ SIEĆ

ADMIN PIN Wyłącza i włącza wybraną kartę sieciową — odpowiednik ręcznego odłączenia kabla.

Hasło, UPnP i odbiór plików

UPnP wystawia plik na cały internet. Używaj go tylko wtedy, gdy naprawdę musisz przesłać coś poza dom, i zawsze razem z hasłem.
Zapora Windows zapyta raz.

KOPIUJ RAPORT przenosi wynik do schowka — do wysłania do pomocy technicznej.

MONITOR TRANSFERU

WAKE ON LAN

Budzi komputery w sieci lokalnej pakietem magicznym.

WI-FI

Okno pokazuje trzy rzeczy naraz: stan własnego połączenia (SSID, sygnał, kanał i pasmo, prędkość, zabezpieczenie), obłożenie kanałów w postaci wykresu i listę sieci w otoczeniu.

ADMIN Zmienia adres MAC wybranej karty sieciowej. LOSUJ generuje losowy adres prywatny, ZMIEŃ MAC zapisuje go i restartuje kartę, a PRZYWRÓĆ FABRYCZNY wraca do adresu sprzętowego.

ZRZUT EKRANU

Robi zrzut całego ekranu i zapisuje go do folderu programu. Dwa ustawienia obok przycisku zmieniają sposób działania:

SCHOWEK (HISTORIA)

Historia schowka to zwykły plik tekstowy obok programu.

SZYBKIE NOTATKI

Jedno pole tekstowe, które zapisuje się samo. W trakcie pisania program pokazuje pisanie…, a po zapisaniu — wczytano. Treść leży w notes.txt obok programu, więc można ją czytać i edytować zwykłym notatnikiem.

KEEP AWAKE

Blokuje usypianie komputera i wygaszanie ekranu — na czas długiego kopiowania, renderowania albo pobierania. Włączony przycisk zmienia kolor na fioletowy i napis na KEEP AWAKE — AKTYWNY. Ponowne kliknięcie wyłącza blokadę i oddaje sterowanie ustawieniom Windows.

WYCZYŚĆ TEMP

PIN Kasuje pliki tymczasowe z %TEMP% i C:\Windows\Temp oraz opróżnia Kosz.

Pyta o stary PIN, potem o nowy.

KOPIUJ RAPORT przenosi całość do schowka.

To pierwsza rzecz, o którą prosi serwis albo pomoc techniczna. Zamiast czytać dane z pięciu okien systemu, wyślij jeden gotowy raport.

MENEDŻER AUTOSTARTU

Pokazuje programy uruchamiane razem z Windows i pozwala je wyłączyć.

Działa w dwóch krokach: najpierw ZAPISZ SNAPSHOT zapamiętuje stan folderu, a później PORÓWNAJ ZE SNAPSHOTEM pokazuje trzy listy: NOWE, USUNIĘTE i ZMIENIONE.

Porównanie bierze pod uwagę rozmiar, datę i sumę kontrolną każdego pliku, więc wyłapuje też podmianę pliku o tej samej nazwie i wielkości. Czytanie dużego folderu trwa — pracę można przerwać, a program powie wtedy Anulowano.

Zapora Windows

ADMIN PIN Trzy przyciski i jedno pole Aplikacja, w którym wskazujesz plik .exe przyciskiem PRZEGLĄDAJ:

DISKPART

Otwiera systemowe narzędzie diskpart — konsolowy menedżer dysków i partycji Windows.

Używaj go tylko wtedy, gdy wiesz, jakie polecenie wpisujesz, i sprawdź dwa razy numer dysku przed każdą operacją.

Uruchamiaj razem z Windows

RESTART DO BIOS

  16. Troubleshooting

1. What the program is

HPL Tool Ultimate is a single .exe file for Windows that brings together, in one window, the things you would normally open several separate programs for: fast file search across the whole disk, network tools, a file server for the home network, small everyday utilities and scheduled shutdown.

The program needs no installation. It does not appear in the Start menu, creates no uninstall entries and scatters no files around the system. Everything it needs — the icon, the logo and the network-card vendor database — sits inside the .exe file.

Four tabs

TabWhat it is for
SEARCHThe file index and searching by name, size, date, extension or content. Duplicates, batch rename, the “what eats the disk” report. This is the default tab — it opens right after start.
NETWORKPing, DNS, network and port scanners, traceroute, traffic monitor, Wake on LAN, Wi-Fi, MAC change, the file server and the “why is there no internet” diagnostics.
TOOLSScreenshots, clipboard history, notes, password generator, checksums, folder snapshot, startup manager, system report, firewall, TEMP cleaning, Keep Awake.
POWERShutdown, restart, hibernation, sleep and log off — now, in X minutes, at a given time or daily at a fixed hour. Restart to BIOS.

What the program does not do

Working data is kept next to the .exe file. The index, notes, PIN, clipboard history and the remaining settings are written into the same folder the program sits in. Moving that folder to another disk or a USB stick takes them along — see chapter 3.

2. Program activation

The program needs a one-off activation on the computer it was started on. On the first start, instead of the main window, an activation window appears — in English, regardless of the system language.

2. Send itPaste it into a message to hplink.soft@proton.me, subject HPL Tool Ultimate - activation.
3. Paste the codePut the activation code you receive into the ACTIVATION CODE field.
4. ActivateThe program confirms Licence activated and opens the main window.

The activation code is about 340 characters long and is a signature bound to one computer. Passed on to somebody else it will not work. Activation itself contacts no server — the codes travel by e-mail, so the program needs no internet connection for it.

Keep the activation code you receive. It stays valid indefinitely and will be useful if the system ever has to be reinstalled. A detailed, illustrated description of activation is in the separate file Program activation — guide.
“This activation code is not valid for this computer” usually means an incompletely copied code — a missing beginning or end, or the code broken while being pasted. Copy it again in one piece. The other possibility is a code issued for a different computer.

3. First start

After activation the program opens the main window on the SEARCH tab. The window has a fixed layout: a top bar, four tabs and a status bar at the bottom.

HPL Tool Ultimate ver.3.23 [17.09.2026]
NOT ADMINISTRATOR RESTART AS ADMIN 00:00:00 PL EN

The top bar

What needs administrator rights. Without elevation these will not work: DISABLE / ENABLE NETWORK, SET DNS, CHANGE MAC, firewall rules (BLOCK, UNBLOCK, BLOCK IN FIREWALL), RESTART TO BIOS and reading process paths in the CONNECTIONS window. The rest of the program works normally.

The PIN

Some functions are protected by a four-digit PIN. The default PIN is 0000 — it is worth changing it on the first run with the CHANGE PIN button in the TOOLS tab.

Asks for the PINWhy
Closing the programThe program does not close from the X without a PIN — this protects a scheduled shutdown from being cancelled by accident.
CLEAN TEMPDeletes temporary files and empties the Recycle Bin.
BLOCK / UNBLOCK in the firewallChanges Windows firewall rules.
DISABLE NETWORK / ENABLE NETWORKCuts the computer off the network.
SET DNSChanges the name servers of the network card.
RESTART TO BIOSRestarts the computer straight into UEFI settings.
CHANGE PINRequires the old PIN before setting a new one.
Three wrong attempts lock the PIN for five minutes. During that time the program answers Locked. The counter resets once the PIN is entered correctly.

Where the program keeps its data

All working files are created in the same folder that holds HPL Tool Ultimate.exe. The program is portable: copying the whole folder to another disk or a USB stick takes the index, notes and settings along.

FileWhat it holds
index.jsonThe file index — the largest of these files, created by BUILD INDEX.
index_cfg.jsonThe list of folders skipped while indexing.
pin.datThe PIN hash. Deleting the file restores the PIN 0000.
clipboard.jsonClipboard history together with pinned entries.
notes.txtThe contents of the QUICK NOTES window.
wol.jsonSaved Wake on LAN devices.
oplog.jsonThe file operation log — the source of UNDO.
ipinfo.jsonRemembered names and vendors of devices from the network scanner.
autostart_backup.jsonA copy of startup entries disabled from inside the program.
app_cfg.jsonThe remaining window and tool settings.
The licence is the exception. The activation state does not sit next to the .exe file but in the system — which is why moving the folder elsewhere on the same computer does not force another activation.
Do not keep the program in “Program Files”. Windows does not let an ordinary user write there, so the index and settings would have nowhere to go. Good places are a folder of your own, the desktop or a USB stick.

4. The file index

Searching by name, size, date and extension works on an index — a list of files made once, in advance. That is why results appear instantly instead of combing through the disk on every question.

Building the index

  1. Choose the scope in the “Drives” field. All drives takes every fixed disk. You can also pick a single drive or — with SELECT FOLDER — one particular directory.
  2. Click BUILD INDEX. The status bar shows how many files have been counted. Indexing a whole system disk usually takes a few minutes and produces an index.json of a few dozen megabytes.
  3. Afterwards REFRESH INDEX is enough. Refreshing adds the changes instead of rebuilding the list, so it is much quicker. With no index yet, the program says plainly: Nothing to refresh — build the index first.

The date of the last indexing sits on the status bar — today, yesterday or an actual date. With no index at all, the bar shows no index.

Exclusions

The EXCLUSIONS button opens the list of folders skipped while indexing. By default these are places where you would not look for your own files anyway: Windows system folders, temporary files, browser caches and update folders. Skipping them shortens indexing and shrinks the index file.

Changed exclusions take effect from the next indexing. An existing index does not change by itself — rebuild it after editing the list.
The index is a snapshot of the disk, not a live view. A file deleted after indexing will still appear in the results. The program notices this when opening it and says the file is gone — but the list does not refresh itself. After a big clean-up, click REFRESH INDEX.

The upper part of the SEARCH tab is four columns of criteria, each with its own button. The criteria can be used separately or combined.

SEARCH — criteria
SEARCH BY NAME
invoice SEARCH BY NAME
SIZE (MIN. MB)
500 FILTER BY SIZE
DATE (YYYY-MM-DD)
2026-01-01
☑ This date and newer
SEARCH BY DATE
Extension: pdf SEARCH BY EXTENSION COMBINED SEARCH In content: contract SEARCH IN CONTENT FILE DUPLICATES
ButtonWhat it does
SEARCH BY NAMELooks for the typed fragment in file names. Letter case does not matter. Typing inv finds Invoice_2026.pdf and inventory.txt.
FILTER BY SIZEShows files not smaller than the given number of megabytes. The quickest way to find what takes up space.
SEARCH BY DATEThe date in YYYY-MM-DD form. With This date and newer ticked it takes everything from that day onwards; unticked — that single day only.
SEARCH BY EXTENSIONThe extension alone, with or without the dot: pdf and .pdf work the same.
COMBINED SEARCHTakes every filled field at once. Empty fields are ignored.
SEARCH IN CONTENTLooks for a phrase inside text files — described in chapter 6.
FILE DUPLICATESFinds repeated files across the whole index — described in chapter 6.

The header of the result list says which criterion filled it: RESULTS — SIZE, RESULTS — DATE, RESULTS — EXTENSION, RESULTS — COMBINED or RESULTS — COMBINED + CONTENT. Each file is listed with its size and modification date.

Searching by name, size, date and extension reads the index, so the answer is instant and puts no load on the disk. Content search has to open files one by one, so it takes longer and works on the folder you point at, not on the whole index.
No index means no results. With no index yet, the program says Index not found! Build it first. Click BUILD INDEX — see chapter 4.

Examples

6. Content search and duplicates

Searching in content

Type the phrase into the In content field, point at a folder with SELECT FOLDER and click SEARCH IN CONTENT. The program walks through the files in that folder and its subfolders and shows every hit together with the line number and the beginning of that line.

LimitValue
File typesText files only: txt, log, ini, cfg, conf, csv, xml, json, md, py, bat, ps1, html, htm, css, js, sql, yaml, yml, srt, nfo, reg, env.
Largest file20 MB. Bigger files are skipped so that one huge text archive does not stall the whole search.
Number of hits1000. Once the limit is reached the program stops and adds (hit limit) to the summary.
This is not a document search. .docx, .xlsx and .pdf files are compressed or binary — the program does not open them and will not find a phrase inside them. Content search is for text files: configuration, logs, subtitles, code, CSV files.
A phrase together with other criteria. If, besides the phrase, you fill in the name, size, date or extension and click COMBINED SEARCH, the program first narrows the list down from the index and only then looks inside those files. With a very large number of candidates it asks whether to really read their contents — going through several thousand files takes time.

Duplicates

The FILE DUPLICATES button goes through the whole index and groups files that share the same name and the same size. The window shows the groups sorted from the largest files down, one group per section, with the path of every copy.

A matching name and size is strong evidence, but not proof. The program does not compute checksums for every file on the disk — that would take hours. When you need certainty that two files are identical, compute their checksums with CHECKSUM from chapter 13.

7. What to do with results

The result list is not just for looking at. A single click selects, a double click opens the file, and the right mouse button opens a menu of operations.

Batch rename

The RENAME FILES button opens a window in which one rule renames every file in the chosen folder.

The PREVIEW — OLD → NEW box shows the result of the rule before it runs. Only APPLY actually renames anything. When a rule changes nothing, the program says No changes to apply and leaves the files alone.

Always read the preview. It is the only moment when you see the effect of the rule on every file at once. Renaming can also be undone — see below.

The operation log and UNDO

The LOG button in the TOOLS tab opens the record of everything the program did to files: copying, moving, deleting to the Recycle Bin and renaming. Every entry has a date, a kind and the number of files.

Not everything can be undone. For entries that cannot be reversed — because the target file no longer exists or has changed meanwhile — the program says This entry cannot be undone rather than acting blindly. Deletion to the Recycle Bin is reversed through the Recycle Bin itself.

8. What eats the disk

The WHAT EATS THE DISK button computes usage from the index rather than by walking the disk again — which is why the report appears within seconds. The window has three tabs.

TabWhat it shows
FOLDERSDirectories from the heaviest down. A double click goes one level deeper, ▲ UP comes back. That is how you reach the exact place eating the disk.
EXTENSIONSHow much space every file type takes altogether. It answers “is it films or backups”. Files without an extension go into the (no extension) row.
BIGGEST FILESIndividual files from the largest down, with their paths.

OPEN IN EXPLORER opens the selected folder or file, and COPY VIEW puts the whole visible list into the clipboard — handy when you want to send somebody the summary. The list can also be narrowed to a single drive.

The report is only as current as the index. After a big clean-up click REFRESH INDEX first, otherwise you will see the state from before the tidying.

Empty folders and 0-byte files

The EMPTY / 0 B button opens a separate window that searches the folder you point at (the BROWSE button, then SCAN) and shows two lists: 0-BYTE FILES and EMPTY FOLDERS.

Empty does not always mean unnecessary. Some programs keep empty folders on purpose and recreate them at start. Look through the list before deleting everything at once — especially inside application folders.

9. NETWORK tab — basics

The top bar of the NETWORK tab selects the network card that every operation applies to: ping, DNS, MAC change, traffic monitor and enabling the network. The program fills the list with the cards visible in the system — usually Ethernet and Wi-Fi.

MY DATA

One button that answers the question “how am I actually connected”. The window gathers in one place what normally takes three different parts of the system:

EntryWhat it means
Internet statusOK or Offline — whether the computer reaches the outside at all.
Router / DNS / internet pingThree separate attempts. Together they show immediately which leg is broken: the router, the name server or the line itself.
Public IPThe address the internet sees you as. This is the only entry that needs a connection.
Local IP and subnet maskThe computer's address on the home network — the one you use when sharing files.
Computer MAC, computer nameFor router configuration and for Wake on LAN.
Default gateway / router IP, router MACThe address at which you open the router panel in a browser.
DNS serversWhich name servers are currently set.

COPY ALL puts the whole report into the clipboard — handy when somebody asks for your connection details.

Ping

Type an address or a name into the Ping field and click START PING. The program pings continuously and shows the replies as they come; STOP PING stops it. This is a tool for watching a line over time — it makes dropping Wi-Fi and brief congestion visible.

DNS

The DNS list holds ready-made sets of name servers: Automatic (DHCP), Google, Cloudflare, Quad9, OpenDNS and AdGuard. Pick one and click SET DNS ADMIN PIN.

A DNS change applies to the selected network card. If the computer uses a cable one day and Wi-Fi the next, set the DNS for each card separately or leave it on Automatic.

DISABLE NETWORK / ENABLE NETWORK

ADMIN PIN Switches the selected network card off and on — the equivalent of unplugging the cable by hand. Useful when the computer has to be cut off for a moment, or when the card needs to fetch a fresh address.

Careful over a remote desktop. Disabling the card you are connected through drops the session, and it cannot be restored remotely.

10. File server

The SERVER button opens a window that turns the computer into a simple file server. A TV, a phone or a second computer on the same network opens the address given and downloads or plays the file — with no USB stick, no cloud and nothing to install on the other side.

ADD FILES ADD FOLDER CLEAR LIST COPY ADDRESS COPY ALL ADDRESSES QR START SERVER

How to run it

1. AddADD FILES or ADD FOLDER. The list may hold several entries at once.
2. StartSTART SERVER. The dot changes to Server running.
3. Copy the addressCOPY ADDRESS, or QR to scan with a phone.
4. Open itType the address into a browser or a player on the other device.

Addresses — which file is where

This is the most common question when sharing several files at once. The rule is simple: the number on the list is the number in the address.

AddressWhat it returns
http://192.168.1.50:8080/With one shared file — that file. With several — a page listing them.
http://192.168.1.50:8080/1
…/2, …/3
The file with that number on the list. The most convenient form for players and TVs.
http://192.168.1.50:8080/update.jsonThe file by name. Useful when the other side needs a particular name in the address — an update file, for instance.
http://192.168.1.50:8080/listA page listing every shared entry, with links.
http://192.168.1.50:8080/playlist.m3uAn M3U playlist of all the files — opens directly in a player.
http://192.168.1.50:8080/uploadThe page for sending files to the computer (when the option is on).
COPY ALL ADDRESSES puts the complete set of ready-made links into the clipboard, one per line — no need to assemble them by hand.

A separate port for one file

Sometimes the other side cannot append a number or a name and expects the whole address to be one particular file. That is what a port assigned to a list entry is for: type a port number next to a file and the program runs a separate server for it in which every address returns that one file.

This is how two different files get two different addresses: http://192.168.1.50:8890/ and http://192.168.1.50:8891/ — each returns its own file, whatever the client appends.

Password, UPnP and receiving files

UPnP exposes the file to the whole internet. Use it only when you really have to send something beyond the house, and always together with a password. When the transfer is done, stop the server with STOP SERVER — the forwarding then ends. Not every router has UPnP enabled; when the router refuses, the program says so plainly.
The server supports seeking. It answers range requests, so a film opened from that address in a player can be wound forwards and backwards, and an interrupted download can be resumed. Changes to the file list take effect live — adding or removing an entry needs no server restart.
The Windows firewall asks once. The first time the server starts, the system asks for permission for incoming connections. It has to be granted for private networks, otherwise other devices will not reach the address.

11. Network tools

NETWORK SCANNER

Goes through the whole home network and shows what is switched on in it: the IP address, the device name and the vendor of the network card recognised from the MAC address. Names come from DNS and NetBIOS, so a TV or a printer usually announces itself.

Recognised devices are saved in ipinfo.json, so the next scan comes back already labelled. The +WOL and PORTS buttons on a row move the device to Wake on LAN or scan its ports straight away.

CONNECTIONS

Shows what is sending data out of this computer and where: the local address, the remote address, the connection state and the process that opened it.

Without administrator rights some processes will appear without the path to their executable — Windows does not hand it to an ordinary user. The connection list itself works normally.

PORT SCANNER

Checks which ports are open on the given address. You can choose common ports or a custom range in the form 80,443,8000-8100. For open ports the program tries to identify the service and shows its first reply, so you see not just “port 22 is open” but what stands behind it. A single scan is limited to 8000 ports, and STOP halts the work at any moment.

Scan only your own devices. Port-scanning somebody else's address is often treated as an intrusion attempt and may breach your provider's terms of service.

ROUTE (TRACEROUTE)

Shows the successive hops packets take to the given address, with their times. It makes clear whether a slowdown is at your end, at the provider's, or somewhere further down the road.

WHY IS THERE NO INTERNET?

A diagnostic that walks the connection leg by leg — the network card, the IP address, the router, DNS, the way out — and states at each stage whether it is all right. Instead of guessing you get a straight answer about the step it stopped at. COPY REPORT puts the result into the clipboard — ready to send to support.

TRAFFIC MONITOR

Shows the current download and upload speed for the selected card, the total since the window was opened, and a chart of the last 60 seconds. It answers the question “is something in the background eating the line”.

WAKE ON LAN

Wakes computers on the local network with a magic packet. A device is added once — Name, MAC and IP, the ADD button — and from then on WAKE is enough. The list is saved in wol.json, so it survives closing the program.

Wake on LAN has to be enabled on the other side — in the BIOS of the computer being woken and in the properties of its network card. The program only sends the packet; if the computer ignores it, the settings are over there.

WI-FI

The window shows three things at once: the state of your own connection (SSID, signal, channel and band, rate, security), channel load as a chart, and a list of nearby networks.

Below the chart the program names the best free channel in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands — a ready answer for what to set in the router when Wi-Fi slows down at peak hours. SCAN AREA refreshes the list, COPY LIST puts it into the clipboard.

When the computer has no Wi-Fi card or the WLAN service is stopped, the window says so plainly (No Wi-Fi adapter, WLAN service is not running) instead of showing an empty list.

CHANGE MAC

ADMIN Changes the MAC address of the selected network card. RANDOM generates a random private address, CHANGE MAC applies it and restarts the card, and RESTORE ORIGINAL goes back to the hardware address.

During the change the card briefly disappears from the system — the connection drops and comes back after a few seconds. If the router assigns addresses by MAC or filters access on it, the computer may get no address until you restore the original.

12. TOOLS tab

A collection of small utilities you would normally reach for separate programs for. Each button opens its own window — several can be open at once.

SCREENSHOT

Takes a shot of the whole screen and saves it into the program folder. Two settings next to the button change how it works:

CLIPBOARD (HISTORY)

The program remembers what you copied and lets you go back to earlier entries — after a restart as well, because the history sits in clipboard.json.

The clipboard history is an ordinary text file next to the program. If you copy passwords or data you would rather not leave on the disk, clear the history after work — or do not keep the program on a computer shared with others.

QUICK NOTES

A single text box that saves itself. While you type the program shows typing…, and after saving — loaded. The content lives in notes.txt next to the program, so it can be read and edited with an ordinary text editor. INSERT DATE adds the current date and time — handy when keeping a work journal.

PASSWORD GENERATOR

Generates several passwords at once. The LENGTH slider sets the number of characters, and the skip look-alike characters option removes zeros and the letter O, ones and both lower-case l and capital I, along with other characters easily confused when copied by hand. Clicking a result copies it to the clipboard — a COPIED confirmation then appears under the list.

Switch “skip look-alike characters” off for passwords you never retype by hand. The full character pool gives a stronger password. The restriction only makes sense when the password has to be dictated or copied from paper.

KEEP AWAKE

Blocks the computer from sleeping and the screen from blanking — for the duration of a long copy, render or download. Once on, the button turns violet and reads KEEP AWAKE — ACTIVE. Clicking again releases the block and hands control back to the Windows settings.

CLEAN TEMP

PIN Deletes temporary files from %TEMP% and C:\Windows\Temp and empties the Recycle Bin. The program asks for confirmation and names those three places, and when it is done reports how many files it removed and how much space it freed. Files held open by running programs are skipped — that is normal and not an error.

Emptying the Recycle Bin cannot be undone. If you rely on Delete to Recycle Bin elsewhere in the program as a safety net, check the Bin before running the clean-up.

CHANGE PIN

Asks for the old PIN, then for the new one. The new one is stored as a hash in pin.dat. Deleting that file restores the factory PIN 0000 — worth remembering when the PIN slips your mind.

13. System tools

SYSTEM REPORT

Gathers a full set of service data into one window: processor, memory, motherboard and BIOS, the system and its version, network cards, and a list of disks with their size and free space. COPY REPORT puts the lot into the clipboard.

This is the first thing a service desk asks for. Instead of reading values out of five system windows, send one ready report.

STARTUP MANAGER

Shows the programs launched together with Windows and lets you switch them off. Disabled entries are kept in a backup, autostart_backup.json, so they can be restored — the tool does not delete them for good.

Do not disable entries you do not recognise. Startup also holds audio drivers, touchpad support and graphics card software. Switch off what you know and do not need right after boot.

CHECKSUM

Computes a file's checksum — MD5, SHA-1 or SHA-256. It is used to verify that a downloaded file is complete and identical to the publisher's.

  1. BROWSE — pick the file. For large files the progress is visible; the computation can be stopped.
  2. COMPUTE — the checksum appears in the RESULT field.
  3. COMPARE WITH — paste the checksum the publisher gives. The program answers ✔ MATCH or ✘ MISMATCH, with no need to stare at a string of characters.

FOLDER SNAPSHOT

Answers the question “what changed in this folder”. It works in two steps: first SAVE SNAPSHOT records the state of the folder, and later COMPARE WITH SNAPSHOT shows three lists: ADDED, REMOVED and CHANGED.

The comparison takes the size, the date and the checksum of every file into account, so it also catches a file swapped for another of the same name and size. Reading a large folder takes time — the work can be stopped, and the program then says Cancelled.

Useful before and after installing an unknown program, when checking what an update changed, and when keeping an eye on a backup folder.

Windows firewall

ADMIN PIN Three buttons and one Application field in which you point at an .exe file with BROWSE:

Rules created by the program are named starting with HPL_BLOCK_, so they are easy to recognise and to remove from the system side as well.

DISKPART

Opens the system tool diskpart — the Windows console manager of disks and partitions. The program only launches it; the work itself happens in the console window, following diskpart syntax.

Diskpart works on partitions and can wipe a disk with a single command, without asking and without a Recycle Bin. Use it only when you know what command you are typing, and check the disk number twice before every operation.

Start with Windows

The Start with Windows box creates a shortcut in the current user's Startup folder, so the program comes up with the system. Clearing the box removes the shortcut. It is useful for shutting the computer down at a fixed hour every day — see chapter 14.

14. POWER tab

This tab plans one thing: what to do with the computer and when. You set two fields and click start.

POWER — scheduling
Action
● Shutdown
○ Restart
○ Hibernate
○ Sleep
○ Log off
Mode
● in X minutes   [ 90 ]
○ at time   [ 23:30 ]
○ daily   [ 23:30 ]
Until shutdown: 01:29:58
START SHUTDOWN TIMER CANCEL SHUTDOWN RESTART TO BIOS
FieldOptions
ActionShutdown, Restart, Hibernate, Sleep, Log off.
Mode: in X minutesA countdown from now. The simplest variant — “shut down in an hour and a half”.
Mode: at timeOnce, at the given hour in HH:MM form. An hour that has already passed means the next day.
Mode: dailyRepeatedly, at the same hour every day. Together with Start with Windows it gives a fixed evening shutdown.

Once START SHUTDOWN TIMER is pressed, the clock on the top bar begins counting down. The program announces the approaching action by voice three minutes and one minute ahead, and again as it happens — so it will not catch you mid-work. CANCEL SHUTDOWN calls the plan off and the clock returns to 00:00:00.

Closing the program needs the PIN precisely so that a scheduled shutdown does not disappear with an accidental click on the X.

RESTART TO BIOS

ADMIN PIN Restarts the computer straight into the UEFI settings, without catching a key at boot. It works on UEFI machines — on older ones with a classic BIOS the system offers no such option.

Save open documents before using it. The restart happens immediately after confirmation.

15. Button summary

Every button of the program in one place. ADMIN marks a need for administrator rights, PIN — a PIN prompt.

16. Troubleshooting

SymptomWhat to do
The activation window appears although the program was already activated.Check that it is the same computer and that the motherboard or network card has not changed. If the hardware is the same, paste the activation code you already have — it stays valid.
“This activation code is not valid for this computer”.Usually a code copied incompletely or broken into two parts. Copy it again in one piece. The other possibility: a code issued for a different computer.
“Index not found! Build it first”.Click BUILD INDEX. Searching by name, size, date and extension needs the index.
Results show files that are no longer there. The index is a snapshot of the disk. Click REFRESH INDEX.
Content search does not find a phrase from a Word document or a PDF.That is by design — only text files are searched. The list of extensions is in chapter 6.
The index or the settings are not being saved. The program sits in a folder Windows does not let you write to — most often Program Files. Move it into a folder of your own.
“Error — run as administrator”.The function needs elevated rights. Click RESTART AS ADMIN on the top bar.
I do not remember the PIN.Delete the pin.dat file from the program folder. The PIN goes back to the factory 0000.
The PIN does not work, the program says “Locked”.Three wrong attempts lock the PIN for five minutes. Wait and try again.
Another device does not see the shared file.Check that the server is running (Server running), that both sides are on the same network and that the Windows firewall was allowed for private networks. Take the address with COPY ADDRESS, not from memory.
The player will not seek in a film from the server. The server supports seeking. If it does not work, the limitation is on the player's side — try the numbered address, for example …:8080/1.
UPnP does not work, the router does not answer.UPnP is often disabled in the router. Switch it on in its settings or forward the port by hand. On a line with a shared address (CGNAT), sharing to the outside will not work at all.
The network scanner shows addresses without names. Not every device announces a name. The vendor recognised from the MAC address is usually enough to identify it.
The Wi-Fi window says “No Wi-Fi adapter” or “WLAN service is not running”.The computer has no wireless card, or the WLAN AutoConfig service is stopped. Start it in Windows services.
There is no connection after a MAC change.Click RESTORE ORIGINAL. Some routers only hand out addresses to MAC addresses they know.
The scheduled shutdown did not happen. The program has to be running at the appointed hour. For the daily mode, switch on Start with Windows.
The program will not close from the X.That is by design — closing needs the PIN so that a scheduled shutdown is not cancelled by accident.
The antivirus reports an unknown file. The program is packed into a single .exe and carries no publisher signature, so it is sometimes reported as unknown. Verify the checksum of the file you received and add it to the exceptions.
